Monday in Sydney

A lighter day on Monday for us. Took the ferry to Watsons Bay and had lunch at the original Doyle's Restaurant. Portions were huge, so our dinner was the take away we brought back to our timeshare.

Tomorrow we head to Coffs Harbour for 5 nights.

Sunday in Sydney

With the Sydney Triathlon scheduled for Sunday, we chose to head in the opposite direction and visit the Blue Mountains. A wonderful day in the wilderness.

After a 2-hour train ride from Sydney to Katoomba, we checked in to Scenic World and enjoyed seeing one of Oz's beautiful natural wonders.

Once home again, we'll upload all of our photos for viewing online.

Saturday in Sydney

Today was a simple day. Spent the day in Manly and returned to Sydney just in time to go to Mass at St. Mary's of the Cross. The cathedral next to Hyde Park.

More on Manly after we return home and offload our camera photos.

Friday in Seattle

Tia's family has a cousin who lives in Campbelltown, a town outside of Sydney. We met Mario and his wife Marcia for lunch at the Museum of Art in Sydney. Delightful visit and far too brief.

Mario is of Italian ancestry and publishes boletinos of family news and historical info in both Italian and English. As we continue our Italian language learning, they are invaluable.

After lunch we went to the Central Railway Station to find out where we go on Tuesday for our train trip to Coffs Harbour.

Then it was off to Circular Quay for dinner at Peter Doyle's at the Quay. This was the restaurant we and our cruise partners dined at in 2005 when we sailed out of Sydney.

Said hello to Rhapsody of the Seas, the ship we sailed on in the Mexican Riviera 11 years ago.

Had our first (but not last) taste of bugs at Doyle's.

Thursday in Sydney

Took the ferry across the harbor to Taronga Zoo. Too much fun! Another beautiful sunny day in Sydney. Blue skies and puffy white clouds. The forecast keeps saying showers, but except for the ones early yesterday - none.

Here's the view from our ferry leaving for Taronga.

More photos later.

Arrival in Sydney

What a wonderful flight. Business Class seats on a beautiful Boeing 747-400. And one of the best flight attendants we've ever met. Dean was fantastic. He even gave us 3 bottles of wine each in Duty Free bags. So, we stepped onto Sydney soil with 6 bottles of scrumptious Aussie wine.

Crikey! How the bloody hell can ye top that? And it's sunny and warm here today.

Awesome start to our journey.

A day in Sydney

Did the touristy thing yesterday at Circular Quay. Went to The Rocks and saw the pier we sailed from in 2005. No ship in port this time.

Browsed the Quay and strolled to the SOH for lunch. Sat near an Aussie couple who scored two tourist gold stars. One for having a sweet one year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Hugo Boss and the other for telling us they loved our accents.

Sorry, no pic of Hugo, but as most Cavaliers go, he loved attention and couldn't get enough petting.

Enjoyed the free downtown shuttle service to and from the Quay. Stopped in at the Pitt Street Mall and replaced the curling iron I inadvertently caused to be burned out by incorrectly setting the power converter. (sigh)

Walked down through Hyde Park after a visit to St. Mary's of the Cross Cathedral.

Today it's off to Taronga Zoo and an afternoon in Manly.

Easter Vigil, Saturday, April 7, 2012

We fly out tomorrow. But, before we do that, we have the wonderful experience of participating in our Easter Vigil Mass at church. It's always a beautiful experience and even though we'll be up past midnight, we wouldn't think of missing it.

Luckily, our flight isn't until the afternoon, so we will have a leisurely morning before heading to the airport.

We already have reservations for dinner one night at a fun restaurant called Peter Doyles @ The Quay (pronounced key). We ate there the last time prior to sailing from Sydney and the food was terrific. Within walking distance of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Right at a location called The Rocks. It's where an original prison was located back in the early days of Sydney's history, but today it's a great place to visit for food, entertainment, or just to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Sydney Harbour.

Whilst there, we'll see a few ships sailing out of Sydney, one of which is a ship we sailed on in the Mexican Riviera - Rhapsody of the Seas. Another, I believe, is the original Princess ship that starred in The Love Boat many years ago.

Time now, though, to finish packing and get ready for mass. Next stop, SeaTac Airport and Alaska Airlines.
